About Pattern Swirl

Hi, I’m Cathrinee — the maker, writer and pattern tester behind Pattern Swirl. Welcome to my little corner of the internet, where yarn, a hook and a good pattern come together.

Why Pattern Swirl exists

Crochet should feel calm and creative, not confusing. Too many patterns skip steps, leave out stitch counts or assume you already know the trick. Pattern Swirl was created to do the opposite: every pattern and tutorial here is written to be clear, complete and easy to follow, whether you are making your very first granny square or your tenth sweater.

What you will find here

  • Free crochet patterns — amigurumi, blankets, wearables and home decor, with materials, gauge and finishing notes.
  • Step-by-step tutorials — from basic stitches to textured and decorative techniques.
  • Helpful references — abbreviations, hook sizes and yarn weights in one place.
  • Premium PDF patterns — ad-free, printable versions in the shop.

How patterns are written

  • US crochet terms, with a link to UK equivalents.
  • Stitch counts at the end of every row or round.
  • A full materials list, including hook size, yarn weight and notions.
  • Notes on skill level, gauge and finished size wherever they matter.
  • Finishing and assembly steps explained — not left as an afterthought.

Let’s stay in touch

I love seeing what you make and hearing your questions. If a pattern needs clarification, you spot a typo, or you simply want to say hello, please get in touch. Happy hooking!
